Good morning! Beam is here for you.

Hello everyone!

Hope you're doing well and able to take a few deep breaths today.

Beam is the first game I ever made, and I kept it on private while I was considering developing it further, but I've moved on to different projects now, so I'm publishing it here to be played for free! Hoping it might help provide some comfort and peace of mind, or a sense of connection.

All my love.

How I made Beam: I designed the game in Twine. I opened Twine and played around with it a little before I had the idea for following the journey of a beam of light, and then I improvised/wrote the story from there. Then I coded the color changes/lights/fonts etc. with the help of my friend Daniel Xiao whose games can be found here: https://elementten.com/, and consulted my friend Olivia Peace for feedback on the story/creative direction. Her/their work can be found here: http://www.olivia-peace.com/.  For the soundtrack I collaborated with my neon philodendron houseplant (named Goldberry) using a device called midisprout, which translates micro-conductivity on the surface of plant leaves in midi data that I mixed in Garageband. I had no prior coding/game making experience, so hopefully this will inspire others who are interested in game creation to experiment and see what they can come up with- especially women and girls interested in creating games. Many thanks to everyone who play tested Beam for me while I was working on it, and to Slamdance DIG for featuring Beam at their LA festival in 2019. And many thanks to you for clicking on this post, and for playing  and (hopefully) enjoying Beam!
